Setting boundaries isn’t selfish; it’s necessary. Especially for women in the workplace or running a business, blurred lines often lead to burnout, resentment, and a sense of losing control. Whether it’s constantly saying yes to extra work, allowing clients to message you at all hours, or tolerating disrespectful behaviour, a lack of boundaries can silently drain your power.
Boundaries are not about building walls; they’re about defining what’s acceptable for your mental health, energy, and time. When you set clear boundaries, you teach people how to treat you—and more importantly, you teach yourself that your needs matter.
Start small. Say no without over-explaining. Take your full lunch break. End your workday on time. If you’re running a business, set communication rules and stick to them. Boundaries don’t have to be harsh to be effective; they just must be consistent.
Remember, you’re allowed to take up space. You don’t need to overextend yourself to be seen as valuable or committed. Real respect comes when you show up confidently and protect your well-being.
If something feels off, it probably is. Trust that inner voice—it’s often your first boundary trying to speak.
