‘No’ is the word most people have the utmost trouble uttering. Not saying ‘no’ when needed can end up causing much distress. Learning how to say ‘no’ when required is a life skill that should be known. When you learn to say no, you will liberate yourself from the chains and reclaim your independence. There are many reasons why you should understand the art of saying no.
Some of them are elaborated below
- Your time has a high value
If you are well aware of your time’s pricelessness, you will always spend it correctly. Commitments that you make out of courtesy will lead to you wasting all of your time. If a person asks you to commit to an activity you are least interested in, saying NO will benefit you the most.
- Be Aware of Your Priorities
When you commit your time to someone, you prioritize them over everything else. If you feel dejected after making this commitment, you do not feel like doing it. This is when you realize that you must prioritize things that matter to you most. A simple NO will always pave your way toward more valuable opportunities.
- Believe Your Intuition
Your gut feeling is always right. Whenever someone asks you for a favor, that little voice coming out from your inside is what you want to do. You may make the wrong choice by suppressing it and going another way.
- It is Impossible to Please Everyone
This is an old proverb that holds ground even today. Trying to please everyone by conforming will drain you. Eventually, you will have no energy to keep up with yourself, friends, and life. Saying NO on time will save you a lot of trouble and stress.
